SS5: New Years, New Mornings, New Mercies

It's close to the middle of January, and our fresh, shiny new year may already be feeling a bit less shiny and new. In this video study, we'll look at a well known and loved passage of scripture, paying attention to what was going on when it was written.
Lamentations 3:22-24
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new (=fresh) every morning
great (=abundant, multiplying) is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”

Do you have a “Word for the Year?”
Do you have a goal or resolution for 2019?
What do you want to learn about this year?
Do you need to turn your mind away from anything?
Blessings to you as you keep walking into this new year and the new mercies God has for you every morning.

Love,
Melissa

  1. my word for the year is increase. This year I want to grow way closer to God and get to know his heart beat better. I want to be able to be used of God in different areas of my life. Lastly I want to turn my mind from worrying about all the debt and financial situations I have. I just want to be a blessing to my community.

  2. I finally was given my word of the year, LIGHT. The idea began in a study that Susan led about John 1. God has been showing me how he is the light so bright that no darkness can put it out. I loved thinking how bright the Light (Jesus) was on that birthday in the stable, that it had to shine outside with the star and the angels, etc. I also want to study and learn more about that Light, and how I can reflect it more!

    1. Love it! (I think LIGHT was almost my word once.) There are so many good scriptures about light! May God shine brightly as you seek His light and as you keep shining His light to those all around you!

  3. I don't think I actually shared my word! My word for this year is HEART. I had already chosen a word in September for my birthday (DESIRE) and HEART goes right along with it. The verse I'm starting with is Psalm 20:4. "May he give you what your heart desires and fulfill your whole purpose." I'm praying that He will lead my heart to desire what He has purposed for me and that as I pursue God, that He will fulfill His purposes for me and my heart this year.

  4. I appreciated this so much when I first listened to it, but kept forgetting to comment. I love the reminder to turn our mind from something we're stuck on, and choosing to turn our mind and heart / filling it with promises and truth. (Very cool the way the two parts of that passage are flipped!)

    My word for this year is COURAGEOUS. Courage to make choices that are hard (like changing our focus, or even putting feet on the floor some mornings!). Courage to step out where God is calling me, seek his agenda for each day, and not my own, to wait on Him when I would rather try to enact solutions or change.

    1. Thanks, Shelly! I love seeing you exercising your courage muscles! It is interesting how sometimes courage looks like stepping out and sometimes courage looks like waiting. It really starts with seeking God, doesn't it! Thanks for your encouragement. You help me be courageous, too.
